Volunteer for us
Use your skills to become a Matthew Project superhero!
Allotment and Wellbeing Team Volunteers
Have you got green fingers? Do you love being outdoors?
This is an amazing opportunity to pass on your horticultural knowledge and your love of gardening!
The Matthew Project is a welcoming and vibrant place for building community, providing support, and helping to develop the confidence and skills for those in recovery from substance misuse.
The Matthew Project has two allotments in Norwich, and we are looking for volunteers who are interested in horticulture and wellbeing. As part of the Allotment Team, you will be involved with everything relating to the upkeep and development of the allotments whilst supporting people (service users) engaging with the Matthew Project.
Tasks may include:
• helping to plan, develop, and maintain the allotments;
• sharing tips on composting, fork to food, ways to include plants in a bedsit, etc.;
• supporting the delivery of practical horticulture;
• ensuring that health and safety requirements are maintained;
• motivating service users to interact with partner organisations, members of the public, other allotment users, and others involved in our projects; and
• signposting service users to other activities, further training, or employment opportunities.

Personal qualities are very important to volunteering roles. You will need to be reliable, friendly, enthusiastic, and have a positive attitude to life. We also value good listening and great communication skills. These all need to be coupled with a commitment to substance misuse recovery principles.
The application process will include an interview, referencing and, if appropriate to the volunteering role, checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
