Volunteer for us
Use your skills to become a Matthew Project superhero!
Minibus Driver (Next Steps) Volunteer
Do you have a Category B Drivers licence, which allows you to drive a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats?
This is an amazing opportunity to get involved in many of Matthew Project’s activities!
The Matthew Project is a welcoming and vibrant place for building community, providing support, and helping to develop the confidence and skills of those in recovery from substance misuse.
We are looking for volunteers to support the Next Steps Recovery Team to drive staff and service users to and from activities and be an integral part of the wider Matthew Project team.
We have a Peugeot Boxer LWB minibus which is based at our Recovery Hub (at 70-80 Oak Street, Norwich NR3 3AQ). You will need to have a clean, Category B driver’s licence and be required to pass a proficiency driving test (carried out by an ex-MiDAS Registered Trainer).
We recognise that developing new skills helps to increase someone’s confidence, makes a positive contribution to their ongoing recovery, and can increase their employability. Therefore, we are looking for volunteers who can encourage people to join in and make them feel comfortable by providing a friendly and supportive environment.
Tasks may include:
• driving staff and service users to and from activities and events;
• carrying out general maintenance checks on the minibus;
• ensuring the minibus is clean, fuelled, and ready to go;
• ensuring that health and safety requirements are maintained; and
• signposting service users to further training or employment opportunities.

Personal qualities are very important to volunteering roles. You will need to be reliable, friendly, enthusiastic, and have a positive attitude to life. We also value good listening and great communication skills. These all need to be coupled with a commitment to substance misuse recovery principles.
The application process will include an interview, referencing and, if appropriate to the volunteering role, checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
