Are you interested in a career that supports those affected by substance misuse?

Are you passionate about helping young people to lead their best lives?

The Matthew Project is a value driven charity working across East Anglia giving help and hope through programmes with adults, young people and communities affected by drugs, alcohol and mental health issues.

We have an exciting trainee opportunity to support the work of the Unity/YouCan youth service through the referrals process, helping with groups, contributing to sessions, and working as part of the practitioner team.  This role is primarily based at our Oak Street centre in Norwich, however, you will also the have opportunity to support outreach activities in the community.

During the 12-month traineeship, we will offer learning and development in a dynamic and varied environment within a supportive team. You’ll be given the opportunity to hone and develop skills and you will support others to affect transformational change in young people’s lives. You will bring a passion for the work of The Matthew Project, a strong desire to help vulnerable and often marginalised young people and enthusiasm and the ability to develop yourself.

After successfully passing the three-month probation period, you will be enrolled on a youth work course, and The Matthew Project (“TMP”) will provide support during work hours to help you understand the theory behind our work with young people.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, of any faith or none. Applications are also welcomed from those who have lived experience. However, this role is not suitable for anyone presently accessing support for substance misuse themselves.

If you have any questions or wish to have an informal discussion prior to applying please contact Lea Denley, Participation and Engagement Lead on [email protected].

The role will require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced DBS check prior to starting employment.
